Last Friday we joined our friends in Silwan in a joint demonstration against the temporary expulsion of Adnan Ghaith, community political activist.

Hundreds of Sheikh Jarrah Solidarity activists and Silwan residents marching through the vilalge on Friday
This morning Adnan was handed an administrative order announcing the rejection of his appeal and his consequent expulsion from Jerusalem for a period of four months effective from 17:00 this afternoon. The administrative order is not part of the judicial process, does not include any specific accusation and relies on secret information rather than tangible evidence. Adnan’s lawyer appealed to the Supreme Court of Justice which issued an interim order postponing the expulsion until a hearing.
Because they failed to find any pretext that would justify launching a criminal procedure against Adnan, the security forces have taken the blatantly anti-democratic step of temporary expulsion from his community, his home, his source of income and his family, using emergency powers granted to military governments in times of war that date from the British Mandate in Palestine. This extreme, draconian measure amounts to nothing less than preventive political oppression.
